The two architectural flagship projects of the Wangen State Garden Show have been honored with the Iconic Awards 2024. The Wangen Tower received the award in the “Innovative Architecture” category, while the Hybrid Flax Pavilion was also named “Best of Best” in the “Innovative Materials” category.
As an internationally renowned prize, the Iconic Awards recognize holistic projects in the fields of urban and architectural design as well as interior design, product design and brand communication.
“The Hybrid Flax Pavilion is the result of several years of research by the Cluster of Excellence “Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture (IntCDC)” at the University of Stuttgart and shows how bio-based materials and bio-inspired structures can show new ways for regenerative and at the same time expressive architecture,” says Professor Achim Menges, spokesman for the IntCDC, who was unable to attend the award ceremony and could not accept the prize himself.
The assessment criteria for the Iconic Award include design quality and aesthetics, as well as social compatibility, choice of materials, sustainability and energy efficiency. The award was presented by the German Design Council, which also presents the German Design Award.
The jury consists of international experts: Virgina Lung (One Plus), Wei Wu (gmp Shanghai), Carsten Schmitt (Topothek 1), May-Britt Frank-Grosse (baunetz interiorl), Daniel Blum (IttenBrechbühl), Karim El-Ishmawi (Kinzo) and Tina Kortmann (UN-Studio).
“I am impressed by the immense potential of some of the designs, which provide answers to current questions in the contemporary architectural discourse,” says Lutz Dietzold, Managing Director of the German Design Council, describing the work of the award winners.
Every year, the award makes significant developments in the architecture sector visible and attracts leading architecture firms, young designers and manufacturers to its festive award ceremony.
The award ceremony with international guests from the architecture industry took place on October 8, 2024 at BMW Welt Munich.
