At our regulars' table this summer, we are guests of Wooden Valley in the courtyard of the Impact Hub in Stuttgart. Robert Böker reports on the GEFION [ˈɡevˈjon] research project, in which he is investigating the extent to which the EU Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF) can be applied to buildings in order to quantify and certify their long-term CO₂ storage. The aim of the project is to recognize timber buildings as reliable carbon sinks and to develop ways to integrate them into existing certification systems and CO₂ markets.
Lilli Striffler and Simone Susenbeth will talk about the results of the IntCDC research project on climate change impact costs and the reassessment of building systems. Through an overall economic assessment of hybrid constructions made of building materials of natural origin in comparison to conventional construction methods, the indirect climate change impact costs are to be taken into account in addition to the direct manufacturing and construction costs. The aim is to derive recommendations for action for building owners on how climate-friendly building systems can be implemented and what political incentives would be required for this.
