This time we were visiting wh-p Beratende Ingenieure. Helen Schweickhardt, Max Daub and Lukas Mütze provided an insight into the daily timber construction practice at wh-p. Selected projects were used to highlight the challenges involved in implementing visible timber structures. Prof. Martin Stumpf took us on a journey into clay construction, opening up different perspectives on the subject: Research – standardization – practical reality.
Lorenz Riedel from the Institute of Building Structures and Structural Design (ITKE) reported on the construction of a large span, point supported timber slab system and its implementation in the IntCDC Building at the University of Stuttgart. The building system developed in the Cluster of Excellence IntCDC introduces a flat slab system made of wood that allows for large spans with irregular support grids, thus expanding the architectural possibilities in timber construction.
Afterwards, the topics could be explored in greater depth in the respective discussion rounds, and as always, there was plenty of time for exchange and networking over drinks and finger food.
